The State Heritage Inventory is currently being upgraded.

The State Heritage Inventory is a computer database that lists all items of heritage significance in New South Wales. It consists of two related lists:

1 Items of heritage significance to the State.

2 All other items protected under the Heritage Act or in local environmental plans, or included on the Australian Heritage Commission's Register of the National Estate. The Inventory includes both protected and unprotected items (see LISTINGS) and will eventually include all items identified in heritage studies and registers compiled by other organisations, such as the National Trust and the Royal Australian Institute of Architects.

It includes an interim list of items of State heritage significance. Items on the Inventory will be categorised into five types:

  • archaeological
  • built
  • landscape
  • moveable or collection
  • group or complex
